Bruce Sloan

Bruce Sloan, Principal

Mr. Bruce Sloan

It is with great pride and continued commitment that I enter my second year as Principal of Cardozo Middle School. Our theme for the 2025–2026 school year, “New Season, Same Mission: Victory Through Excellence,” reflects our ongoing dedication to academic achievement, student development, and operational excellence across all facets of our school community.

With over a decade of experience in education, my journey began right here in Jackson Public Schools at Isable Elementary School, where I served as an academic tutor before graduating from Jackson State University. Afterward, I became a 5th grade teacher, where I taught all subjects and helped contribute to Isable Elementary’s B rating in both the 2015–2016 and 2016–2017 school years. My career then led me to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where I taught 5th grade ELA at Central Elementary School, again helping students achieve success that contributed to a school-wide B rating. I later joined Harrison County School District, where I taught English Language Arts for grades 6 through 8. Notably, my 7th grade scholars achieved the No. 1 ELA ranking within the school and ranked No. 7 in the state.

I returned to Jackson to serve as assistant principal with Republic Charter Schools, followed by leadership roles at Powell Middle School and Kirksey Middle School within JPS. These leadership experiences helped prepare me for the opportunity to now serve Cardozo Middle School, where I proudly lead alongside a dedicated team of educators and administrators.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with concentrations in reading and English from Jackson State University, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, Nebraska, and an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction Administration from Nova Southeastern University. I am currently pursuing a Doctorate in Transformational Leadership, which I plan to complete soon.

At Cardozo, we live by our powerful tagline, R.O.A.R.:
Raising the Standard. Operating in Excellence. Achieving Greatness. Reigning Supreme.

Together with the support of our families, community, and school staff, we are moving Cardozo forward. I encourage all parents and guardians to remain actively engaged in your scholar’s education, as your partnership is vital to their success. I am honored to serve this community and excited for all the victories this new season will bring.

Let’s continue to ROAR and achieve greatness... together.
